The Senate passed a bill on 17 May 2022 that orders jail for violations of freedom of speech in the media, including social media. But Diario Libre reports that the bill will not find smooth sailing as it is reviewed in the Chamber of Deputies. Several deputies of the Dominican Revolutionary Party (PRD), the People’s Force, the Dominican Liberation Party (PLD) and the Modern Revolutionary Party (PRM) told Diario Libre that they will not vote for the bill that passed in the Senate and seeks to regulate the exercise of the right to privacy, honor, good name and self-image.
The bill needs the vote 2/3 of those present to pass in the Chamber of Deputies.
