Gang hijacks bus with free zone employees on their way to work in Santiago

A bus with workers headed to their jobs in the Santiago Free Zone Corporation was hijacked on Wednesday, 1 June 2022. Those on board had to hand in their cell phones, cash and other valuables to the criminals.

Crime has been on the rise in Santiago. The Police had just replaced the country’s second-largest city Police commander seeking to turn the situation around. Yet, as reported in Hoy, crime is not letting up, to tell by the recent bus hijacking.

A group of hooded men carrying long guns committed the crime. They stopped the employee bus on a stretch of the Circunvalación Sur avenue.

The victims of the criminals were on their way to the Víctor Espaillat Mera Industrial Park in the western part of this city.

New Santiago Police commander, Brigadier General Claudio Gonzalez Moquete said the bus was assaulted by members of a gang that operates in the area. He said that they are working on the identification of the criminals to apprehend them and then bring them to justice.
