Two years before the elections, everyone seems to be campaigning

Despite the many pressing problems affecting the Dominican Republic, Dominican politicians are on the road to convince voters, they are the one. Dominican electoral law bans early campaigning. There are many loopholes in the law that allow for early campaigning.

Following up on the intense campaigning by opposition parties, on Sunday, 19 June 2022, President Luis Abinader took to motivating his followers to ready for the 2024 campaign. The elections are in May 2024, yet the Central Electoral Board (JCE) has yet to confirm the date. Abinader’s ratings are by far the highest of all pre-candidates.

President Luis Abinader encouraged the leadership of the ruling Modern Revolutionary Party (PRM) to continue working to “repeat the triumph in 2024.″ He criticized the opposition for representing inefficiency, corruption, abuse of power, waste and impunity.

Abinader spoke at the closing of the ceremony for the presentation of certificates to the elected authorities of the Modern Revolutionary Party (PRM). He defended his government administration, the ruling organization and aimed his cannons against those who “remained in power for more than 16 years and did not solve a single one of the country’s problems.” President Abinader urged the people “not to look back.”

“We won at the ballot box against a perverse and corrupt culture that was based on private interests over the general interest,” the President said when speaking to thousands dressed in white that gathered in the Palacio de los Deportes sports arena in Santo Domingo. His followers constantly chanted “four more years.”

Abinader exhorted the PRM organizations to “conquer the streets” in every square, neighborhood and municipality of the country, to continue “pushing for a new government.”
