
President Luis Abinader and Tourism Minister David Collado were in Samana on Sunday, 26 June 2022 to announce Project Malecon, a major uplift to the city of Samana.
The government has budgeted RD$449 million to improve rain drainage on the Malecón and avoid the flooding that has affected the area in the past.
The President also kicked off this weekend the construction of the new entrance to the city of Santa Bárbara de Samaná at a cost of RD$300 million pesos. The work is to be executed by the Ministry of Public Works. The entrance will cover 3.3 kilometers, from the municipal district of El Limón to the head municipality of the province.
Public Works Minister Deligne Ascensión said that the government has already invested over RD$500 million in other infrastructure works in Samana. These include the El Limón bridge, asphalting of the sectors of Santa Bárbara-Samaná, areas of Playa Anabel, Villa Clara, Villa Félix, Loma de Colón and Callejón Javier, and the construction of the neighborhood roads El Limón, El Naranjo, Cabeza de Toro and Las Garitas.
Other public works carried out in Samana are the construction of local roads in Agua Sabrosa and Palmarito. Also in the construction of 1.8 km of sidewalks, curbs, potholes, laying of pipes in El Limón, asphalting of the Batida and Jacoba sectors, including the street of the stadium and William Johnson Avenue.
Regarding the construction of the entrance to the province, Deligne said that “once the work is completed, the residents of Samaná will be proud of the first impression they will give to visitors to the province”.
