
The board of directors of the Dominican Foreign Investment Association (Asiex) visited with Vice President Raquel Peña. The Vice President recently was named the acting Minister of Environment. The Vice President is also the coordinator of the Abinader Administration’s Cabinet for Investment Promotion and the Health Cabinet.
In a press release, Asiex explained the visit was to discuss the priorities and initiatives of the Abinader administration for the promotion of investment and reinvestment in the country and how foreign investment companies can contribute to these initiatives and to the social and economic development of the nation.
Lawyer Alejandro Peña Prieto, the president of Asiex, described the meeting with Vice President Raquel Peña as highly positive. He said it was an opportunity to explore new areas of collaboration and proposals to strengthen the business climate and the development of new investments in the Dominican Republic.
The press release also highlights that the board of directors congratulated the Vice President of the Republic for the results achieved in the different cabinets she leads, namely Health, Education and Investment Promotion.
The topics discussed during this meeting were protecting the environment and how foreign investment companies can contribute to the fight against climate change; the project to modify Law 16-95 which regulates Foreign Investment in the Dominican Republic; the institutional and regulatory strengthening of municipal governments.
Also, the process of implementation of the single window for investments, to streamline processes, in line with the vision of the Zero Bureaucracy Project; and the formation and training of the country’s human resources to face the challenges and opportunities of the Fourth Industrial Revolution.
ASIEX reiterated its support to continue working hand in hand with the government, legislative and private entities in the fulfillment of these objectives.
In addition to Peña Prieto, who is managing partner of Squire Patton Boggs Peña Prieto Gamundi, others attending the meeting with the Vice President were Raquel Bourguet, assurance lead partner of PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC); Edwin De los Santos, president of AES Dominicana.
