Looking for solutions for drivers facing monorail and cable cars

Late last week the National Center for Transportation Workers (CNTT) and the Executive Unit for the Readjustment of Barrios (URBE) met for talks on what will happen to thousands of drivers of shared transport cars, mini-buses, mototaxis, buses and other forms of public transport used in the city of Santiago and the entire Cibao region. The construction of a new monorail and cable car system to reduce traffic density is now underway, and the drivers realize that they will feel the pinch of fewer passengers when it goes into service.

Juan Marte (CNTT) and Jhael Isa (URBE) agreed to the talks, meetings with the driver groups to find solutions to the major issues. One of the first issues they noted was how to resolve the situation of those drivers and vehicles that have been displaced by the work that began underneath the north side of the Hermanos Patiño bridge. Driver groups from towns such as Tamboril, Pedro Garcia, San Jose de las Matas and over a dozen representing transport routes in the city were in attendance.
