The Ministry of Education reports that the 2022-2023 School Year officially starts on 19 September 2022. Private schools are authorized to start earlier. Most private schools start in August.
The National Education Council met on Wednesday, 27 July 2022 and approved the 2022-2023 School Calendar. The calendar convenes teachers to schools to start preparing the public schools for classes on 1 September 2022.
The first September-December period is 14 weeks long. The second semester runs from January to June, and is 23 weeks long. The education authorities say the school year is flexible, but teachers must meet requirements of the educational curriculum.
According to the Ministry of Education, the calendar will have 179 working days, equivalent to 37 school weeks of classes for students, and 213 days of teaching work, corresponding to 40 work weeks.
Education Minister Roberto Fulcar, who also chairs the National Education Council, said that the new school year will begin with more than 5,000 schools refurbished with paint, water, bathrooms, cracks, leaks. He announced more than 30 high schools nationwide are being gradually converted to polytechnic institutes.
The school calendar ends on 23 June 2023 for students and 29 June 2023 for teachers.
