
The two miners that were rescued from the Cerro de Maimón copper and zinc Cormidom mine in Monseñor Nouel province were medically discharged on 11 August 2022 from the Ramon de Lara Hospital in eastern Santo Domingo following two days of medical assessments. The miners were rescued by a major Dominican and international operation after 10 days trapped underground.
At a press conference, Minister of Public Health Daniel Rivera said the men should continue to undergo post-traumatic treatment and observation.
The miners, Dominican Gregores Alexander Méndez Torres and Colombian Carlos Yépez Ospina, returned on 11 August to Monseñor Nouel where the population and their families are waiting with joy. Gregores lives with his 77-year old grandmother and his 6-year old daughter.
A celebratory mass was held on Thursday, at 4:30pm at the Sagrado Corazón de Jesus church in Los Mendez.
The singer and senator for the province of Monseñor Nouel, Héctor Acosta “El Torito” prepared a live welcome party on Saturday, 13 August 2022 from 7pm at the Maimón City Hall to celebrate the miracle of life of the miners.
