Somos Pueblo’s Ricardo Ripoll and Eduardo Sanchez Tolentino (El Piro) continue to follow up on suspected overpricing of procurement at the EdeNorte power distribution company. Somos Pueblo has presented evidence of price inflating in tenders with the government power distribution company that serves the north of the Dominican Republic.
The general manager of EdeNorte, Andres Cueto, is also the president of the ruling Modern Revolutionary Party (PRM) for the province of Santiago, the third largest voting district in the Dominican Republic.
Somos Pueblo has presented several quotes from the original suppliers in China and local retailers, as well as procurement during the same month by another government power distribution company, as proof of the major price padding by the EdeNorte operation.
Recently, the general manager of EdeNorte, Andres Cueto announced he was suing Somos Pueblo for defamation. Somos Pueblo responded presenting more evidence of the overpricing in EdeNorte procurement operations.
President Luis Abinader recently commented on the matter: “There needs to be an agreement, but it is also tough when your morale is affected.”
