More cocaine seized off coast of Peravia

The National Drug Control Agency (DNCD), the Dominican Navy, the Air Force and state intelligence agencies, in coordination with the Public Prosecutor’s Office, have seized another 565 packages of what is presumably cocaine off the southcentral coast of Peravia province.

The DNCD agents and the Navy acted after receiving an alert about the presence of a suspicious boat on the high seas, heading towards Dominican territory.

Upon securing the boat several nautical miles south of Punta Salinas, in the municipality of Baní, Peravia province, the law enforcement officers arrested two Dominicans. 18 sacks containing 565 packages of the substance wrapped in adhesive tape were seized.

The Go Fast type boat, blue and white in color, with no name or registration, about 30 feet in length, would have arrived to the Dominican coasts from South America.

During the operation, which lasted for more than 20 hours, two GPS, a satellite phone, three cell phones, and two outboard motors of 60 Hp each were also seized.

The Public Prosecutor’s Office and the DNCD are investigating the case.

“During this 2022, the DNCD with support from the Navy, Air Force, Attorney General’s Office and state intelligence agencies, has confiscated 24,919 kilograms (24.9 tons) of different drugs, in multiple operations carried out in a coordinated manner at airports, ports, coasts, borders and other points of the country.

The packages seized in this new operation against drug trafficking were sent under chain of custody to the National Institute of Forensic Sciences (Inacif) to determine the type and exact weight of the substance.
