Heavy rainstorms are forecast especially later this week. A tropical storm is moving our way and is expected to bring heavy rains as it moves north west north over Puerto Rico and then the Dominican Republic as of Saturday, 17 September 2022. Tropical Storm Fiona was named on Thursday, 15 September 2022.
Saharan dust keeps the storm under control, impeding its development to hurricane category as it moves on a westerly course. Weather forecasters expect a mid-level tropical storm to affect Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic.
Weather experts are alerting that all in the Dominican Republic must take precautions as heavy rain is expected with wind damage and flooding through next Tuesday. The bad news is that the storm is moving very slowly.
MikeFisher, the DR1 weather expert says the storm seems to be gaining strength and this is good news for the country because it then will move on a WNW course, rather than on a more westerly course. MikeFisher says what happens as the storm passes over Puerto Rico’s mountains. He says so far it is forecast to come very close or right over the Punta Cana area in the East.
September is the peak month for storms in the Dominican Republic. Despite forecasts for an active season, this 2022 has been one of the least active in recent history.
