Emelyn Baldera, the president of the Dominican Association of Entertainment Writers (Acroarte) says that Acroarte and the sponsor of the Premios Soberano, the Cervecería Nacional Dominicana (Presidente Beer manufacturer), are still working out how the awards ceremony should evolve. She explained the awards ceremony is 40 years old and needs to adapt to the new times. She said that this 2022 there will not be an awards ceremony and thus the 2021 and 2022 awards will be unified in the event scheduled for a date to be announced in 2023, as reported in Diario Libre.
Bethania Ortega, spokesperson for the CND said that an agreement was reached with Acroarte but that definitely there is no time to organize the awards ceremony for this year. The date is to be announced.
An editorial in Diario Libre translates the agreement differently and says the parties are still working out an agreement. The editorial points to the differences that have impeded the event from being staged in 2022: “The brewery wants more urban and more Tokischa and Acroarte does not want to let go of its role in the selection of the award winners and its directors are oriented towards other types of music and performers.”
The Soberano Awards ceremony have been televised from the National Theater for years and provide an overview on the best in Dominican entertainment industry, through the arts, including theater, cinema and television.
