Dominican authorities carried out a large interdiction of a suspect “fast boat” off the coastline of Barahona. Elements of the Dominican Air Force, Armada, and Army took part in the operation.
There were five persons arrested and 667 packages of what is thought to be cocaine were seized. The action took place near the beach at Quemaito near the town of Arroyo.
Besides the suspected drugs, the authorities also seized the boat, a 32 foot “Go Fast” with two 100 hp outboard motors, lots of gasoline containers, Kevlar vests, and the two Toyota pickups that were to be used to transfer the shipment.
After the shoot out, two persons managed to escape and are currently being sought by the authorities.
