President Luis Abinader launched the Gender Parity Initiative in the Dominican Republic, a public-private partnership that seeks to reduce the men-women wage gap and promote the participation of women in leadership positions.
The program seeks to foster investment in companies that are run by women and investing in companies that promote gender equity.
The program is championed by the Ministry of the Presidency and the Ministry of Women and has the participation of a dozen public institutions, 12 private entities and 19 organizations that already promote gender equity in the country.
The InterAmerican Development Bank (IDB) is part of the initiative. The representative for the InterAmerican Development Bank (IDB) in the Dominican Republic, Katharina Falkner-Olmedo, notes that if the gender gap is narrowed, some countries could see a 20% increase in their overall economic performance.
