The Presidency presented to the Senate a bill with fiscal facilities to better position local aviation to compete with big foreign aviation companies. The bill has a provision that would exempt Dominican operators from the payment of ITBIS tax on round trip flights for flights originating abroad to the Dominican Republic.
The Draft Bill for the Promotion and Competitiveness of the National Civil Aviation seeks to reduce airfares, increase the number of visitors, establish new domestic and international routes, strengthen the Dominican Republic as a connecting point and promote the competitiveness of the national airline industry through tax incentives.
The Dominican Airlines Association (ADLA) had called for the government to instate measures to level the competition before the government signs an open skies agreement with the United States as backed by the US government. The new bill incorporates measures intended to create conditions for fair competition in tax regimes.
