Arajet wants to add Guyana to its list of destinations

The Guyana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) director-general, Retired Lt Col. Egbert Field, has confirmed that Dominican low-cost airline Arajet is interested in adding Guyana to its destinations. The low-cost carrier applied to the Civil Aviation Board (JAC) to add more destinations to its flights to points in the Caribbean, South America and Central America.

Arajet wants to compete with the well-established Copa Airlines that serves Guyana, as reported in Aviacion Online.

As reported, Arajet wants to fly to several Brazilian, Central American and Caribbean destinations. According to Resolution 278-2022 of the Economic Authorization Certificate (CAE) number 25 filed on 14 December 2022, the low cost has requested eight routes from Santo Domingo/Las Americas (SDQ). These are:

Manaus (MAO), Brazil.
Rio de Janeiro (GIG), Brazil.
São Paulo/Guarulhos (GRU), Brazil.
San Pedro Sula (SAP), Honduras.
Belize (BZE).
Bridgetown (BGI), Barbados.
Port of Spain (POS), Trinidad and Tobago.
Georgetown (GEO), Guyana.

A public hearing in Santo Domingo is scheduled for 4 January 2023 to address the additional routes.

Arajet already operates flights to Aruba, Colombia (Barranquilla, Bogota, Cali, Cartagena, Medellin), Costa Rica, Curacao, Ecuador (Guayaquil and Quito), El Salvador, Guatemala, Jamaica (Kingston), Mexico (Mexico City, Cancun and Monterrey), Peru (Lima) and St. Maarten.
