The Embassy of Japan announced that President Luis Abinader will visit Japan on an official trip from 31 March to 5 April 2023. He will travel with his wife Raquel Arbaje.
The embassy says that the visit is to exchange views on strengthening bilateral relations. It is also to address how to react to various issues on the current international situation.
On the official agenda is a meeting of President Abinader with Japanese Prime Minister Kishida Fumio. A working dinner is scheduled. Abinader is scheduled to visit the city of Hiroshima, the Japanese embassy adds.
The Japanese Embassy note states that the Dominican Republic is an important partner for that nation, with which it shares fundamental values such as democracy and free trade.
Abinader is the second Dominican President to visit Japan on an official visit. The first was former President Leonel Fernández in 2006.
The Presidency of the Dominican Republic has not announced the visit to Japan. The Presidency recently announced President Luis Abinader would visit South Korea in April.
