The director of the National Institute of Hydraulic Resources (INDRHI), Olmedo Caba presented the project at the second meeting of this commission, organized by the foreign ministries of both countries. The proposal was presented to the Water Technical Table, created in the first meeting held in May 2021.
Ambassador Julio Ortega Tous, executive secretary of the Dominican-Haitian Bilateral Mixed Commission, recalled that the Water Table was formed to address issues related to transboundary surface water sources and binational aquifers plan their sustainable use in a harmonious manner for the two countries.
Meanwhile, Ambassador Pierre Karly Jean-Jeune, technical secretary of the commission and representative of the Haitian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said that the documentation prepared by INDRHI as the basis for the project will be presented to sub-commissions for a brief evaluation.
Caba expressed hope that these meetings be a platform to advance towards beneficial results for the citizens of both countries. He indicated that the Pedernales River Adjustment Project, which also includes maintenance actions in the upper and middle basins to reduce the degree of sedimentation by dragging, contemplates the removal of one million cubic meters of sediment from both banks of the river.
