The Dominican Republic men’s basketball team is working hard to be one of two teams to grab the remaining two slots for the Americas to the 2024 Paris Olympic Games that will be handed out during the FIBA World Cup. The FIBA World Cup will take place 25 August to 10 September 2023 in Indonesia, Japan and the Philippines.
The Dominican Republic team is ranked 23rd in the world and is placed in Group A in the FIBA World Cup. The DR won its World Cup slot with a team without NBA players. The DR defeated Argentina, ranked 4th in the world.
In phase one of the World Cup, the team will compete against Angola (ranked 41st), Italy (ranked 10th) and host Philippines (ranked 40th) in Indonesia.
The Dominican team traveled to Europe to continue training.
El Dia reports that the Dominican team could be reinforced with the participation of Dominican NBA players Chris Duarte (Indiana), Karl Anthony Towns (Minessota Timberwolves), Lester Quiñones (Golden State), Justin Minaya (Portland) and Al Horford (Boston Celtics).
