For many decades, the National Aquarium has entertained and educated thousands and thousands of people and served as a sanctuary for endangered of injured marine life, including the endemic herd of manatees. But it needs attention, and last Friday, President Luis Abinader appointed a committee to oversee and coordinate the much-needed makeover.
The announcement comes in response to several stories and reports mainly in Listin Diario on the deteriorating conditions at the National Aquarium.
Spokespersons for the aquarium noted that a lot of work has been done with funds from their meager budget, but the influx of additional funding is much appreciated. The National Aquarium is a tourist attraction and educational destination.
