President Luis Abinader and Vice President Raquel Peña spent the weekend in ribbon cuttings, inaugurations and other public ceremonies. 2024 is just around the corner and it is an election year, so all of this activity is generally considered to be normal.
This weekend was especially hectic. President Abinader was in Manzanillo, Montecristi, Valverde, and Greater Santo Domingo, and the Vice President was in Santiago and the surrounding areas. In all, nearly 20 inaugurations were carried out.
Especially interesting were the ribbon cuttings in the area of Manzanillo, where the President initiated the construction of the new energy facilities at the Port of Manzanillo, opened a road dedicated exclusively for freight deliveries to the harbor, and turned the switch on a now solar power farm in Esperanza, province of Valverde.
As if that was not sufficient, the nation’s leader also handed out some 300 certificates of ownership in various housing projects and held meetings with local business leaders.
In the Northwest, the President was present for the inauguration of the new Wyndham el Morro hotel in Montecristi.
He cut the ribbon for a new polytech high school and told the reporters that he wants to build at least 300 to 400 new polytechnical schools in the coming year. And that was just on Friday!
In Greater Santo Domingo, the President carried out a similar series of inaugurations and housing ownership ceremonies in North and East Santo Domingo.
Meanwhile, Vice President Raquel Peña was in Santiago, opening new schools, water systems, and electric grid improvements for the province.
Sunday was a repeat, and the Vice President was present for the inauguration of a sports complex, schools, and more certificates of ownership of government-build apartments and a childcare facility in Los Mina, eastern Santo Domingo.
