World 400m champion Marileidy Paulino commanded the 2023 Prefontain Classic’s 400 m run and was the Diamond League overall winner in the 400 m. She successfully defended the title she had already won in the 400m in the Diamond League in 2022.
The 26-year old won the Diamond League finals with a time of 49.58. The runner ups were: Natalia Kaczmarek with 50.38 and Lieke Klaver from the Netherlands who clocked in at 50.47.
As is usual with Paulino, she was behind, actually in 6th place at the 100 m mark, and then gradually yet surely took the lead with her gazelle-like strides.
The race carries a cash prize of US$30,000.
Paulino won silver in the Tokyo Olympic Games and now is the woman to beat into the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. Since May 2023 she is the world ranked No. 1 in the 400m.
