The many domestic airports and varied destinations within the Dominican Republic make the country an attractive travel option for private plane tourism.
To increase market share of private plane tourism, the Airports Department recently signed with Air Rally and Fly In an agreement to foster group air events to and from the Dominican Republic.
Victor Pichardo, executive director of the DA, said the Airport Department is committed to support the coordination and logistics required for hosting air rallies and fly ins.
He said the agreement signed with Catherine Tobenas, managing director/co-founder at La Société Aviation Connection Event and coordinator at International Air Rally, is part of the strategy to promote the Dominican Republic as a safe destination for general aviation in the Caribbean region. They signed the agreement at the Opa Locka Executive Airport headquarters in Miami, Florida.
“We thank Catherine Tobenas and her organization for joining this country’s effort and allowing us to demonstrate that the Dominican Republic has a safe and friendly airport system for non-commercial private aviation,” said Pichardo.
The agreement also calls for the DA to coordinate with airport operators and government agencies the arrivals of participating aircraft, following the Protocol for the Management of Non-Commercial Private Aviation.
The DA commits to secure government permits for the opening of any domestic airport chosen as the entry port for group air events for limited international operations.
Meanwhile, Air Rally International commits to promote the Dominican Republic as a safe and friendly destination for non-commercial private aviation, through the design and implementation of a promotional strategy articulated with the permanent body of the Airport Department.
Likewise, Air Rally International will coordinate the planning and execution of the logistics required to implement group air events to and from the Dominican Republic, including private plane air rallies and fly ins.
“The Dominican Republic has it all, and this collaboration will allow American and Canadian pilots to enjoy the Dominican Republic as much as I enjoy it,” said Catherine Tobenas.
