Spirit Airlines says that a misrouted six-year old boy was always under the care of airline staff. The young boy’s parents sent him from Philadelphia to his Dominican grandmother Maria Ramos in Fort Myers, Florida. But the airline put him on a flight that took him more than 160 miles from his destination. The airline apologized to the parents and says it is investigating what happened.
The grandmother told Wink News when the flight arrived and her grandson did not disembark, she panicked.
Her grandson would later call her from Orlando after the airline put him on the right plane. The grandmother picked him up in Orlando.
For the six-year old the flight was his first. Now he may think that his grandmother lives very far away.
The airline says it is investigating what happened. “The child was always under the care and supervision of a Spirit Team Member, and as soon as we discovered the error, we took immediate steps to communicate with the family and reconnect them,” Spirit said in a statement shared by the TV station, adding it was conducting an internal investigation.
