Ashes of Hans Dannenberg Castellanos return to the Dominican Republic

The remains of Hans Dannenberg Castellanos were received with a water salute as a token of respect to the legendary diplomat upon their arrival to the Punta Cana International Airport on 3 January 2024 from Canada. At the time of his death, Dannenberg Castellanos was the Dominican Republic’s ambassador to Canada. The Abinader administration had called 3 January 2024 a day of national mourning in honor of the former ambassador to Canada, Russia and India.

Dannenberg Castellanos died of a heart attack on 23 December 2023 when on vacation with his family in Montreal, Canada.

The ambassador’s funeral services were held at the Blandino Funeral Home.

After the diplomat’s death, Russia and Canada held masses in his honor. These two countries were the last in which he led the country’s foreign policy.

The Ministry of Foreign Relations has opened the book of condolences.
