On Sundays in February, there is a carnival happening in La Vega. This 2024 around 2,000 Union Carnavalesca members that bring together the carnival troupes will parade through main La Vega streets for the delight of thousands that make the trip to the centrally located city. People can stay in the mountain towns of Constanza and Jarabacoa and then take in the carnival on Sunday before returning to their destination.
The Carnival of La Vega originates in the 19th century and is fusing European and African traditions.
The Diablo Cojuelo characters add a mystical and festive touch to the parades.
