The Dominican National Ballet presents Ellas

The Ministry of Culture, the Fine Arts Agency (Dirección de Bellas Artes) and the Dominican Board for Dance announce the Dominican National Ballet will perform “Ellas” a production that highlights the many roles women play in Dominican society.

The performances are scheduled for 29 February, and 1 and 2 March 2024 at the Máximo Avilés Blonda Hall of the Palace of Fine Arts on Av. Máximo Gómez in Santo Domingo, with shows opening at 8:30pm. There will be earlier performances for students from public schools and dance schools.

Lisbell Pietra is the choreographer. The performances include a section from Jules Perrot’s Giselle ballet and Jorge García’s virtuoso choreography “Majísimo.”

“We have designed a show where strength, empowerment, sensitivity, resilience and sound are manifested through the sublime language of ballet,” says National Dominican Ballet director Stephanie Bauger in the press release announcing the ballet.

One of the main objectives of our management is, precisely, to use ballet as a vehicle to empower women to face the challenges regarding equal opportunities, Bauger highlights in a press release on the upcoming performances.

The gala also features the recognition of four outstanding Dominican women from the world of art and culture — Sarah Esteva, Nelia Barletta, Marilyn Gallardo and Maria Amalia Leon.
