PRM keeps hold of Puerto Plata

The candidates of the ruling Modern Revolutionary Party (PRM) and allies claimed victory in the nine municipalities that make up the province of Puerto Plata in the 18 February 2024 elections.

The president of the PRM, Jose Ignacio Paliza is a former senator for Puerto Plata. He had taken a leave of absence from his role as Administrative Minister of the Presidency to work on the campaigns.

Puerto Plata city mayor Diomedes Roque Garcia won his first reelection bid. Other winners are
Luis Joel Francisco (Altamira), Germania González (Guananico), Héctor Radhames Francisco (El Mamey Los Hidalgos), María Elena Ramos (Imbert), Héctor Almonte (Montellano).

Three PRM allies also won the election. These were Wilfredo Olivences (Sosúa), Israel Brito (Luperón) and Ruddy Leandro Gómez (Villa Isabela), the last three from the Social Christian Reformist Party (PRSC).
