Congressional priorities; important bills filed away to committees

The first legislature of the year opened on 27 February 2024. The president of the Senate, Ricardo de los Santos announced sending pending bills to committees for consideration. These include the Civil Code of the DR and Divorce Bill, and another that regulates official pardons, sent to the Justice and Human Rights Committee; the Hydrocarbon Sector Bill, sent to the Industry, Commerce and Free Zones Committee.

Also, the Organic Law Initiative for Local Administrations was sent to the Municipal Development and Non-Governmental Organizations Committee.

The initiative that provides for the exhumation of the remains of Pedro Santana from the Panteón de la Patria and their subsequent transfer to the “Batalla de las Carreras” Military Academy was sent to the Culture Commission. Alfonso Sanchez.

The bill that proposes to amend Law 1-24 that creates the National Intelligence Agency (DNI) was sent to the Interior and Police and Citizen Security Committee.

The bill that amends Labor Code Law 16-92 to include teleworking in the Dominican Republic was sent to the Social Security, Labor and Pensions Committee.

The bill that would amend General Health Law 42-01 so that all people who seek emergency services be attended in public and private medical centers was also sent to committee.

The senators approved a second reading of the Organic Law bill that regulates the granting of the public force for the execution of conservatory and executory measures, presented by Senator Virgilio Cedano.

The Senate will meet again on 6 March 2024.

Meanwhile in the Chamber of Deputies, it was announced that a bill that calls for the revoking of the National Intelligence Agency (DNI) Law 1-24 was sent to a committee for review.

Senators and deputies are heavily engaged in the 19 May 2024 presidential and legislative election campaigns.
