
Excitement and nerves are behind her: Maria Moronta is an Olympian. The Ministry of Sports reported that Maria Altagracia Moronta Hernandez made the cut on 11 March 2024 to the Olympic Games for a second time in her boxing career. She had competed in the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.
During the Road to Paris First World Qualification Boxing Tournament held 3-11 March 2024 in Busto Arsizio, Italy, Dominican Maria Moronta defeated Navbakhor Khamidova of Uzbekistan in the 66 kg category for the ticket to the Paris Games. Moronta won the bout 4-1.
668 athletes from 114 National Olympic Committees (NOCs) and the Boxing Refugee Team participated in the qualifier in Italy. Moronta was one of the 28 men and 21 women to qualify. Other Dominican boxers still get another chance in the June qualifier.
Boxing will take place in the Paris Olympics from 27 July until 10 August 2024.
