Abinader’s photo dominates the presidential ballot

There is a lot of repetition in the photos on the 19 May 2024 presidential election ballot that has 33 boxes where voters are asked to place their X, Listin Diario reports.

The ruling Modern Revolutionary Party (PRM) has allied with 20 other political parties for the presidential elections. This means on the presidential ballot, President Luis Abinader appears 21 times, including on the first box on the ballot.

Santiago Mayor Abel Martinez is running for President for the Dominican Liberation Party (PLD) and appears only on in the second position on the ballot. The PLD did not ally with another political party for the presidential candidacy.

Former President Leonel Fernandez of Fuerza del Pueblo (FP), who is seeking a fourth term in office reached alliances with four political parties and thus appears in five spots on the same ballot. He has the third slot on the ballot.

The candidates that have a single slot on the presidential ballot are Miguel Vargas Maldonado for the Dominican Revolutionary Party (PRD); Maria Teresa Cabrera, for Frente Amplio (FA); Fulgencio Severino, for Patria Para Todos (PPT); Carlos Peña running for Generación de Servidores (GENS); Virginia Antares Rodríguez, running for Opción Democrática (OD) and Roque Espaillat, for Esperanza Democratica (PED).
