The Dominican Telecommunications Institute (Indotel) announced the inauguration on 20 March 2024 of an ITLA tech learning center in Pedernales, on the border with Haiti. The new center seeks to help prepare the staff that will be employed in the new tourism ventures, including resorts, in Pedernales province, the next great Dominican tourism destination.
Indotel highlighted the project is part of the Dominican government’s mission to expand access to quality technological education and close the digital divide in the Dominican Republic.
The new learning center will offer courses in software development, data science, information networks, computer security, multimedia, office automation and mechatronics.
The president of the Indotel’s board of directors, Nelson Arroyo, and the rector of ITLA, Omar Méndez attended the inauguration. ITLA has its main campus in eastern Santo Domingo.
“Education is a fundamental right, not a privilege. At Indotel we are committed to making this ITLA Center in Pedernales a space where everyone in the community can study and learn the careers and skills that the global market demands,” stated Arroyo.
The opening ceremony was attended by local authorities, special guests and teachers.
The opening of this educational facility is part of an agreement signed between Indotel and ITLA, for the expansion of technological centers outside of Santo Domingo. Other centers in operation are located in southeastern San Pedro de Macorís city and in northcentral Moca city.
