Body language reading of opposition presidential candidates

Eladio Hernández / Somos Pueblo

Somos Pueblo interviewed psychologist Eladio Hernandez who explained how the body language of the presidential candidates of the opposition, former President Danilo Medina (2012-2016 and 2016-2020) and former President Leonel Fernandez (1996-2000, 2004-2008, 2008-2012), reveal the announced political coalition is week. The Somos Pueblo interview focused on a recent encounter of presidential candidates Leonel Fernandez of the People’s Force (FP), Miguel Vargas Maldonado of the Dominican Revolutionary Party (PRD) and Abel Martinez of the Dominican Liberation Party (PLD) with Danilo Medina also of the Dominican Liberation Party.

Medina of the former ruling Dominican Liberation Party (PLD) is backing Abel Martinez for President against Fernandez of the People’s Force, the dissident party that was formed in 2020 given the differences between the two politicians. Medina and Fernandez, nevertheless, have agreed to support a coalition for specific senator and congressional positions into the 19 May 2024 presidential and congressional election.

The coalition, motivated by former Minister of Foreign Relations Miguel Vargas Maldonado, who is the presidential candidate for the PRD, did not work in its first run for the municipal elections. The ruling Modern Revolutionary Party (PRM) swept the municipal election, with PLD candidates in second place, and FP candidates in third place. The PRM was formed when former President Hipolito Mejia split from the party together with presidential candidate hopeful Luis Abinader prior to the 2016 presidential election. At the time, Miguel Vargas would back the presidential aspirations of Danilo Medina.
