DR wins the First Caribbean Kids Series

MLB scouts were there to check for who could become the emerging talents for Caribbean baseball. The players in the first Caribbean Kids Series were 11 and 12 years old.

The Dominican team lost game one to Mexico, but then went on to win six games straight and clinch the championship played against young teams from Mexico, Panama, Venezuela, Nicaragua and Puerto Rico. Mexico, Panama, Venezuela and the DR played the finals.

The Dominican Republic team delivered and beat the Venezuelan team 12-10 in the finals of the First Caribbean Kids Series played at the Juan Demostenes Arosemana Stadium in Panama City, Panama. The two teams were tied to nine runs in the fifth inning when Juan de Peña hit a three-run home run. The Venezuelans were only able to score one more run. De Peña also pitched two innings in the victory game. He was chosen the Most Valuable Player of the championship.
