Political parties submit their government proposals

The seven parties that have candidates for the Presidency for the 19 May elections presented their government proposals to the Central Electoral Board (JCE), complying with the deadline established in the law that expired on Sunday, 7 April 2024.

The candidates are:

President Luis Abinader, who seeks to be reelected running on the Modern Revolutionary Party (PRM) ticket.

Santiago Mayor Abel Martínez, who is running for President for the Dominican Liberation Party (PLD).

Three-term former President Leonel Fernandez, who this time is running for the Fuerza del Pueblo (FP), the political party that was born in 2019 when Fernandez disputed the PLD’s choice of presidential candidate into the 2020 presidential election.

Former Minister of Public Works and Minister of Foreign Relations Miguel Vargas Maldonado for the Dominican Revolutionary Party (PRD).

Former public school teacher association president, María Teresa Cabrera, who is running for the Frente Amplio.

Fulgencio Severino, the candidate for Patria para Todos (PPT).

Carlos Peña, running for Generación de Servidores (GENS).

Virginia Antares Rodríguez, running for Opción Democratica (OD).

The proposals of all but the PLD and Fuerza del Pueblo can be accessed at the JCE website.

The strengthening of the economy, citizen security, employment, education, innovation in technology, health, social security, tourism, environment, transparency and sport are among the main points on which the candidates base their proposals to promote the development of the nation.

Recent leading polls indicate that President Luis Abinader has a comfortable lead over his closest opponent, former President Leonel Fernandez.
