Cemdoe announces expansion of hospital services

As medical services in the Dominican Republic continue to improve to serve the local population and medical tourism, the Medical Center for Diabetes, Obesity and Specialties (Cemdoe) announces a major investment to expand its modern facilities on Av. Luperon in western Santo Domingo.

The expansion will include an emergency and stabilization area, hospitalization and an intensive care unit. At present, the private hospital mostly offers diagnostics services.

Another US$22 million will be invested in the modern emergency and stabilization area, as well as in inpatient services, and an intensive care unit to provide complete medical care.

Mariela Vicini, founder of Cemdoe, said that “the addition of these new services reflects the organization’s unwavering commitment to offering the most complete care, covering all the needs of our patients and accompanying them in every step of their recovery.”

Cemdoe is the first Dominican medical center to be accredited by the Joint Commission International (JCI). JCI certifies the quality of medical care and patient safety at the hospital, and that the hospital complies with JCI-defined international standards.

Cemdoe officially opened on 27 April 2021 with the attendance of President Luis Abinader. It is located off Av. Luperon in the San Geronimo sector of western Santo Domingo. The hospital describes itself as a fully digitalized and protocolized center, supported by international processes, standards and policies that allow it to emerge as a world-class center, strengthening the opportunity for the export of services through health tourism.

The center occupies a construction area of more than 20,000 square meters, where it currently houses 42 offices with 24 specialties. Additionally, it has recreation areas, more than 250 parking spaces and offers jobs to more than 400 professionals.

Among the medical specialties, the Diabetic Foot Unit and the Hemodialysis and Nephrology Unit stand out. Dr. Pedro Mena heads the innovative diabetic foot unit in the country opened to reduce to zero the amputations in patients. The Nephrology Unit focuses on the promotion, prevention, diagnosis and treatment of kidney diseases, and is chaired by a multidisciplinary medical team.
