A Dominican Air Force pilot will preside the United Nations Military and Police Advisors Community (UN-MPAC). Military and Police Advisers’ Community (MPAC) is an informal group of United Nations (UN) delegates performing military and police advisory or liaison functions in New York at the UN headquarters.
Brigadier General Fernando Hernández Calcaño was chosen for the position on 22 May 2024 during a UN-MPAC ordinary meeting held at the German consulate in New York City. He will be responsible for coordinating the military attachés of the 193 member states of the United Nations (UN).
Mauricio Ramírez Villegas, the Dominican Republic’s representative to the UN, said the appointment is a recognition of the responsible and dedicated work of General Hernandez. He remarked that the Dominican leadership in the United Nations Military and Police Advisors Community will not only benefit the country but will also strengthen cooperation and coordination among UN member countries in matters of security and defense.
The United Nations Military and Police Advisors Community plays a crucial role in the formulation of global security policies and the implementation of peacekeeping missions. The naming of the Dominican general is seen by the Dominican government as a source of pride for the country and a recognition of the work and dedication of its armed forces in the international arena.
