Rains forecast for Thursday, good weather for the weekend

A tropical wave is combining with a trough bringing more rains on Thursday, 6 June 2024.

The Center for Emergency Operations (COE) has placed 15 provinces on yellow alert due to the increase in heavy rains caused by a trough crossing the Dominican Republic. 10 other provinces remain on green alert.

The provinces on yellow alert are Hato Mayor, El Seibo, San Pedro de Macorís, Santo Domingo, National District, Santiago, Santiago Rodríguez, Peravia, Samaná, San Cristóbal, Monte Plata, Puerto Plata, Dajabón, Barahona, and Pedernales.

The provinces on green alert are Montecristi, Monseñor Nouel, San José de Ocoa, La Altagracia, Azúa, La Romana, La Vega, Duarte (especially the Bajo Yuna), Sánchez Ramírez, and María Trinidad Sánchez.

According to the Weather Office (Onamet), this present passing weather systems will generate showers of varying intensity with thunderstorms and gusts of wind during the morning affecting Barahona, Azua, Pedernales, Peravia, San Cristóbal, Greater Santo Domingo, La Altagracia, La Romana, San Pedro de Macorís, Monte Plata, Hato Mayor, and Samaná. In the afternoon, the storms will impact San José de Ocoa, Monseñor Nouel, La Vega, María Trinidad Sánchez, Santiago, Santiago Rodríguez, Puerto Plata, Espaillat, and other Haiti bordering provinces. Rains are forecast for the evening, especially on the Caribbean coast.

The COE recommends that people in the provinces on alert be vigilant and take precautions against possible flooding, landslides, and other hazards caused by heavy rains.
