People and organizations from the northeastern provinces in the country are coming together to act as one and seek gains for the region. Leaders for the northeastern provinces of María Trinidad Sanchez (Nagua), Duarte (San Francisco de Macoris), Hermanas Mirabal (Salcedo) and Samana (Samana, Las Terrenas, Las Galeras) have accepted the call of Listin Diario and area universities — Northeastern Catholic University (UCNE) and Open University for Adults (UAPA) for a regional forum. The Northeastern Forum will take place on 10 September 2015 at the UAPA facilities in Nagua.
The forum seeks to create a platform for integration among the provinces of the northeastern region, facilitating dialogue and consensus-building among stakeholders. This inaugural event marks the first in a series of regional forums, fostered by the newspaper.
Father Isaac García de la Cruz of UCNE university emphasized the importance of collective action to secure national budgetary allocations and strategic development plans. “As a region, we must think beyond the immediate future and set short, medium, and long-term goals,” he stated.
The forum will address critical issues such as the environment, water resources, education, child welfare, culture, youth employment, and local development.
