
After months of requesting the information, Diario Libre was finally able to obtain three of 10 contracts the government has signed for shipyards that private companies operate on government property.
The conclusion is that the deals have been onerous and the Dominican Republic is losing out on what should be a major business opportunity given the geographic location of the country. The DR has the potential to be the regional repairs and renovations as the country advances to becoming the regional logistics hub.
The contracts have been negotiated in past and present governments. Diario Libre publishes in its 9 September 2024 edition several of the details of the contracts it has received from the government.
