The Blue Mall shopping center on Av. Winston Churchill was evacuated on Sunday, 27 October 2024 after reports of a fire around 11:46am. The firefighters were promptly on site and discovered that the blaze had originated in the power plant mechanical room, specifically in the filters area. The fire was promptly extinguished and the situation placed under control. The management had applied the protocols and evacuated the mall. Subsequently, the management determined the mall would remain shutdown for the remaining of Sunday. Only the JW Marriott continued in operation at the plaza. The Blue Mall management expressed its appreciation to the Firefighters and the 911 System for rapid response.
The mall was scheduled to reopen on Monday, 28 October and operate normally from 10am to 9pm.
