
The Dominican Republic has a new Japanese Ambassador, Hayakawa Osamu, since October 2024. He is accredited to the Ministry of Foreign Relations and has yet to present his credentials to President Luis Abinader.
He expressed eagerness to work towards deepening the bonds of friendship between Japan and the Dominican Republic.
Hayakawa Osamu is a graduate of the University of Tokyo. Before his appointment, he served as professor at the Ritsumeikan Asia Pacific University from January 2023 to August 2024 at the Oita Prefecture.
He was also Deputy Director General, Japan Center for Asian Historical Records at the National Archives of Japan from August 2020 to Septembrer 2022.
Previously, he held the position of counselor minister at the Japan Embassy in Thailand from October 2018 to July 2020.
He served as counselor minister from May 2015 to October 2018 for the Japanese delegation to the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), the intergovernmental economic organization in charge of fostering economic progress and world trade, based in Paris, France.
