Certainly not helped in any way by the recent spate of heavy showers, the nation witnessed a major, multi-vehicle traffic accidents at the end of last week. In the municipality of Navarrete, on the Duarte Expressway, there was a major traffic accident that left at least ten people injured and involved about 15 vehicles. Assistance was provided by entities from the National Police, the agents of Ground Transport Agency (Digesett), and the equipment from the Ministry of Public Works (MOPC).
According to Francisco Arias, the head of the Civil Defense agency in Santiago, a large truck, lost control and was the cause of the accident. Due to the wreckage scattered about, authorities were forced to divert traffic into oncoming lanes until the mess could be cleared up.
The backup of cars and commercial vehicles lasted for many hours. The wounded were taken to hospitals in Santiago and Navarrete.
