Thanksgiving is an official day in the Dominican Republic

Most Dominicans think celebrating Thanksgiving is an exclusively American thing to do. Now, it seems there is a Dominican law that provides for the get-togethers.

Over the weekend, Supreme Court of Justice former president Jorge Subero Isa posted on X that back in 1962, the transitional Dominican government council had enacted under President Rafael Bonelly had enacted Law 6038, giving official status to the celebration of Thanksgiving Day in the Dominican Republic on the same fourth Thursday of November. The 1962 law designates the National Day of Thanksgiving and Prayers and sets it aside for reflection and gratitude. The law instructs the secretariats of Education and Interior & Police to oversee compliance with the law.
