Milagros Germán steps down from Abinader’s government

Popular Dominican media personality Milagros Germán has announced her resignation from the Abinader administration effective January 15th.

Germán, affectionately known as “La Diva,” first joined the government in 2020 as the President’s spokesperson before assuming the role of Minister of Culture in October 2021.

In a statement released on Tuesday, 7 January 2025, President Luis Abinader expressed his gratitude for Germán’s contributions, highlighting her successful modernization of cultural awards, the expansion of Dominican cultural centers abroad, and the strengthening of partnerships with institutions like Berklee College of Music. “Her legacy at the Ministry of Culture will serve as a benchmark for future administrations,” Abinader said.

In her social media post, German thanked President Abinader for the opportunity to serve and expressed her continued support for the administration.

She is also recognized for organizing the best Santo Domingo Book Fair and more. Yet she is criticized for doing little regarding the mega propaganda budget of the government when she was spokesperson, for her many relatives who are now employed in government.

The resignation comes shortly after Irving Alberti in an interview with Aquiles Correa (El Meneo de Correa) says that what he criticized in the political parodies for Chevere Nights, the Milagros German former TV variety show, against the PLD governments is valid today despite the government spending billions to announce it was the government that would bring change.
