The Ministry of Foreign Relations (Mirex) and the Dominican Association of Exporters (Adoexpo) have signed a collaborative agreement aimed at promoting and bolstering the country’s exports and investments, as well as strengthening international relations. The partnership leverages the Dominican Republic’s advantages to drive sustainable economic growth.
Foreign Minister Roberto Álvarez and Adoexpo President Karel Castillo signed the document, highlighting the Dominican Republic’s potential to achieve this goal by strengthening ties with other countries. The agreement specifically focuses on fostering integration processes and international cooperation, aligning with the country’s National Development Strategy.
A joint working group, chaired by the Ministry of Foreign Relations and coordinated by the Vice Ministry for Economic Affairs and International Cooperation, will be established as a result of this agreement.
“This agreement with Adoexpo perfectly aligns with our mission to support the growth of the national productive sector and open new opportunities for Dominican exporters. Thanks to our political stability, legal security, and the development of a resilient and diversified economy, we are consolidating our presence in global markets. This favorable environment has been key to achieving sustained growth in our exports, which in 2023 reached a record of over US$12 billion, highlighting the quality and competitiveness of our products,” Álvarez added.
Adoexpo president Castillo noted that this symbol of inter-institutional cooperation is a significant step towards strengthening the country’s commercial, economic, and cultural relations, both domestically and internationally.
“The signing of this agreement is an open invitation to all stakeholders in our economic, social, and cultural ecosystem. We are all part of this great mission to position the Dominican Republic on the world map of business and international cooperation,” Castillo added.
The joint working group will be responsible for developing an action plan to strengthen communication and provide Dominican exporters with diplomatic tools. The group will also manage foreign market opportunities, process cooperation opportunities to enhance the capabilities of Dominican exporters, conduct market research through diplomatic and consular missions, and establish open communication channels between both parties.
During the January-November 2024 period, Dominican exports reached US$11.9 billion, with US$6.4 billion going to the United States, the country’s primary trading partner. Notable products include gold (US$1.3 billion), medical instruments (US$1.3 billion), and cigars (US$993.9 million), reflecting the quality and competitiveness of exports, which are key pillars in strengthening the national economy.
The signing ceremony was held at the Ministry of Foreign Relations.
