The Dominican Republic is about to get a taste of the future of transportation with the arrival of a new air taxi service, Diario Libre reports. The service will utilize the EH216-S model aircraft, brought to the country by the National Association of Unified Transporters (CNTU), which will oversee the project.
Air taxis offer private aviation services, allowing passengers to travel quickly and flexibly between destinations without being tied to traditional commercial routes.
The EH216-S is a state-of-the-art electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft, making it ideal for urban environments and short-to-medium-distance travel. The aircraft can take off and land vertically, eliminating the need for runways. This makes it ideal for use in congested cities, such as Santo Domingo.
The CNTU is currently working to develop the necessary infrastructure and regulations for the air taxi service. The company plans to launch the service in the near future, pending regulatory approvals.
The city of Santo Domingo has several helipads in service.
