After a series of publications alluding to a “suspicious” discovery of some 400,000 Christmas bonus cards, the government announced late last week that the cards would be distributed to the needy, Acento reports. The Social Policy Cabinet reported that this is part of a budgetary plan to help alleviate budgetary pressures created in December 2024.
So far, the program has benefited 2.6 million people, according to government sources. These cards worth RD$1,500 each will be distributed through the usual channels of the Superate program and the Presidential Special Projects Program (Propeep). The announcement coincides with the change of director at Propeep. Roberto Dario Polanco Tejada was named the new director of the Propeep in Decree 48-25.
The beneficiary families have been registered in other governmental processes, such as the Universal Housing Registry, and recipients will generally be notified by phone or by personnel from the government agencies involved.
