Boca de Cachón spring water attraction is now at international touristic standards

Tourism Minister David Collado recently inaugurated the renovated Boca de Cachón spring water site in Independencia province. The project, which cost nearly RD$103 million, is expected to revitalize the local economy and boost domestic and international tourism in the southwestern border province of Independencia.

Minister Collado highlighted the project’s potential to directly benefit local businesses, generate employment opportunities, and stimulate the surrounding economy. He also noted that the renovations align with the Ministry’s broader efforts to promote tourism in every corner of the Dominican Republic and diversify the country’s tourism offerings.

The renovation project, overseen by the Tourism Ministry’s Infrastructure Development Committee (CEIZTUR), encompassed an area of 13,000 square meters. The improvements include:
• Two recreational areas
• A scenic overlook with pedestrian access to the spring water enclosure
• A central plaza
• Landscaping
• Accessibility features such as ramps and stairways
• New facilities, including concrete benches, picnic tables, and showers
• 59 parking spaces for vehicles and 36 for motorcycles
• Two security booths for the Tourist Police (Politur)
• Men and women restroom facilities

Known for its unique cold, crystal-clear waters, Boca de Cachón, along with Las Barías, are two of the most popular natural attractions in the southwestern Dominican Republic, particularly during the summer months and Holy Week.
