Pedernales needs to finish the Enriquillo-Pedernales road

Improved access roads to Pedernales, the country’s newest tourism destination, are behind schedule, Diario Libre reports. The Enriquillo-Pedernales road for years has been under repair. The repairs are especially important now that around 1,500 new hotel rooms are under construction in the area.

Diario Libre reports that the project calls for investing RD$4 billion in the improved road that will reduce the driving time from Santo Domingo from five hours to 3.5 hours. The government is also building the Baní bypass to shorten the driving time from the capital city to Pedernales, on the Southwest.

The Abinader administration is building three resorts in Pedernales’ Cabo Rojo beach area. One will be operated by the Spanish Iberostar chain and another two will be Hyatt resorts. Boat excursions to Bahia de las Aguilas are a main draw for those staying in Pedernales.

A cruise ship terminal is already receiving thousands of tourists attracted by the pristine beaches of the southwest.
